by Local Organizing Committee on June 21, 2011

Golden Moves, Inc., the organizers of the August 28 Golden stage start of the 2011 USA Pro Cycling Challenge, announced today that its events throughout the last two weeks of August will be supported locally in large part through a $20,000 tax-deductible contribution from New West Physicians.

New West Physicians is a primary care group practice and medical management company consisting of 57 physicians and 18 mid-level practitioners practicing at 16 office locations throughout the Denver metro area. The mission of New West Physicians is to improve the physical, mental and spiritual health of the communities we serve through an integrated, primary care-owned and managed health care delivery system.

New West’s CEO Ruth Benton said that she recognizes the natural fit between a comprehensive health care practice such as New West’s, the health benefits of bike riding, and Golden’s “Health, Wellness & Sustainability Expo,” which will take place the weekend of the race. “We are thrilled to support Golden’s stage start of the inaugural USA Pro Cycling Challenge,” said Benton, “and we are looking forward to a spectacular Expo weekend full of excitement capped by the stage start and race through Golden.”

“Golden’s beautiful setting will be a crowd pleaser,” said Julie Brooks, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee. “It will offer the best of everything to cyclists and race fans alike.”

This pledge brings the fundraising for the event well past the halfway mark towards the $200,000 goal. Race organizers are actively soliciting additional major sponsorships at the  $15,000 and $10,000 levels, as well as lower tiers.

The inaugural USA Pro Cycling Challenge will take place August 22-28, 2011, starting in Colorado Springs and traveling to Salida, Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte, Gunnison, Aspen, Vail, Avon, Steamboat Springs, Breckenridge and Golden, with the final finish in Denver. With more than one million spectators expected at the event, as well as national television exposure on NBC and the cable network VERSUS, the USA Pro Cycling Challenge will be the race to celebrate in America.
