Make a Weekend of it!
We have planned some fun and exciting events for race weekend in August!
Friday, Aug. 24
The weekend kicks off on Friday afternoon (Aug. 24) with the “King of the Mountain” Lookout Mountain Hill Climb. 240 cyclists will make their way up the mountain in an individual time trial. Do you have what it takes? Registration is open now at www.Prerace.com!
After you have had your fill at the block party, head on over to the Lions Park Ball Fields for the Hill Climb awards ceremony and a movie under the stars! The awards will start at about 7:30 p.m. The movie, Breaking Away, will begin at dusk (about 8:30 p.m.). Picnics are welcome, but please, no alcohol in the park.
Saturday, Aug. 25 is Race Day!
There is plenty to do before the racers arrive in Golden and after they head out of town!
The Expo in the Start Village
The Expo opens in Parfet Park at 10th and Washington at 8 a.m. Vendors and exhibitors in the health, wellness and sustainability industries will be available in the park until 7 p.m. You can also get Official Race Merchandise and Merchandise for Golden’s local Stage 6 in the park. After the pro cyclists leave town, watch the race live on the JumboTron in the park, while you enjoy lunch and a beer!
Kids’ Adaptive Dash
We have partnered with Two Angels Foundation for a Kids Adaptive Dash at 9 a.m. at the Start Line. The dash will stat at the official USA Pro Challenge start line and head south to 12th and Washington. Be sure you are around to give these children some work-class cheers!
After watching the Kids’ Adaptive Dash, stroll over to pit row on 11th Street where the pro riders will arrive at about 9:45 a.m. You can watch them warm up, get some photos and maybe some autographs.
11th and Washington will be the place to be to get autographs from your favorite riders as they head to the sign in stage!
Of course! That’s why you are all here! The race kicks off at 11:10 a.m. at 11th and Washington. Golden will have two parade loops before the riders head for Boulder and the rest of Stage 6. When the riders head out of town, you can head to Parfet Park where the race will be broadcast live on the JumboTron until the end!
Just because the race is over doesn’t mean the fun is! After the race ends on the JumboTron, stick around for a free concert! J.P. Harris and the Tough Choices will open, and then enjoy The Samples in concert until 7 p.m…just in time to head downtown and get some dinner before heading home o rest after an exciting day of world-class cycling!
